The farming community in the Fanad and Kerrykeel areas have been left in shock over the latest theft of five purebred sheep last week.
It is estimated that at a show and sale, the five sheep could have fetched €10,000. The sheep were stolen from farmland at Rosskirk in a remote location close to Drumnacraig Mountain. Included in the theft were a yellow painted Suffolk and four black and white Dutch spotted sheep.
Gardaí in Milford are appealing for information – in which the sheep were stolen sometime between 3pm on Tuesday the 14th of January and 11am on Thursday the 16th.
Homeowners with CCTV have been asked to check their systems to try and identify suspicious movement of vehicles, vans and jeeps in particular.
Sources in the sheep business say that it is obvious that local knowledge is playing a huge role in the thefts. The location is off the beaten track but it is hoped that cameras in the vicinity may have picked up vital evidence about a particular vehicle.
