In December, one of Kilmacrennan National School’s longest serving and most loved and respected teachers, Mrs Pauline Doherty, said goodbye to colleagues and to those she cared for most, the children of Scoil Cholmcille. A special farewell concert was organised to mark the special occasion of Pauline’s retirement by lifelong friend and colleague, Mrs Susanne Gallagher.
Pauline qualified in 1989 from St. Patrick’s College in Drumcondra. She began her teaching career in Carrigans followed by periods of time in Rathdonnell, Drummond and Termon National School before moving to her final port of call in Scoil Cholmcille, Kilmacrennan, 23 years ago.
She spent a number of happy years in Rang a hAon and Rang a Dó before moving to and finally taking charge of the Special Educational Team. It was a role in which she thrived.
Her organisational skills, willingness to learn and the overarching care she showed to the pupils who needed her help most, marked her out as someone who went above and beyond.
Pauline’s husband Mark and son Cormac along with her mother and father, Billy and Mary McFadden from Cashel, Creeslough and a number of her siblings were in attendance at her special farewell concert.
