Construction to start on Carrigart/Downings Walkway

Cllr Liam Blaney has been informed that work will start on the Phase 1 of the Carrigart to Downings Walkway by early next month. Cllr Blaney raised the issue at the Municipal District meeting on Tuesday. The detailed design and compilation of the tender documents for Phase were completed in September in parallel with extensive engagement with the relevant landowners.
A competition to procure a contractor to undertake the project was initiated on Friday 4th October. Tenders were returned in early November with the Council saying there was significant interest in the job.
In a written reply to Cllr Blaney the Council said: “The assessment of the returned submissions is nearing completion as is the acquisition of land necessary to deliver the project. It is hoped that a contractor will be appointed to commence works on site towards the end of January/early February 2025.”
