Swilly Mulroy Credit Union hold AGM

The Swilly Mulroy Credit Union held their 40th annual general meeting in the Rossnakill Community Hub on Monday night where chairperson John Joe McGowan made an appeal a number of times for new volunteers to join them.
He said that “we are a viable business and the only thing that will close the Swilly Mulroy Credit Union is the lack of volunteers and if anyone wants to get involved just call into the office in Kerrykeel.”
Mr. McGovern opened the AGM saying it was a difficult for everyone including Credit Unions with the increases in costs but they were pleased to report a surplus again this year.
He announced that their low rate home improvement and car loans will continue and reminded everyone that theres free insurance on all loans.
“It’s important SMCU is part of the continue and we will continue to support and sponsor local events including the Bake Day in aid of Crumlin Hospital, the art competition and schools quiz.
Our Rathmullan office still falls short in terms of levels of business and he encouraged more people from that area to join.
In 2024 they increased their loan book by 11.97% and they have a loan product to suit all members. Their investments are performing well and add to the bottom line and with no more negative interest rates the future looks bright. In 2023 they received €168,492 while that was up to €259,197 in 2024.
Despite this the Central Bank has recommended no dividend on savings or interest rebate for members.
